Context
I was brought on as a contributor to work on this project by ETIC, INSA Lyon's junior enterprise, alongside one other collaborator. The project was proposed by Fondation 2100, a foresight foundation operating under the aegis of the Fondation CNRS. The goal was to design a web application allowing anyone to assess their ability to anticipate, project themselves into, and act on the future, through a 10-question questionnaire adapted from the GFRI (Global Foresight Readiness Index), with the broader aim of raising public awareness about foresight and its role in everyday decision-making.
What I built
A web application where visitors go through a guided journey: an introduction and consent screen, a few optional profile questions, then ten questions. At the end, they get a score placed on one of five maturity levels, a downloadable PDF summarizing their result, and a curated set of resources to keep exploring the topic.
Key features I put in place:
- Design : The interface follows Fondation 2100's graphic identity and style guide, so the experience feels consistent with their existing brand.
- Questionnaire and scoring : Ten questions with a clean, focused interface designed to be completed in a couple of minutes. The answers are turned into a score and a maturity level
- Database : Responses are stored anonymously to help the foundation analyze trends. No IP addresses, no cookies, no tracking, and data is automatically deleted after five years.
- 11 languages : The whole site is fully translated into French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew, Greek and Swahili.
- Content Management System (Sveltia CMS) : the foundation's team can edit the questions, the level descriptions and the resources themselves, through a simple admin interface, with no developer involved and nothing to maintain.
- Resources section : hand-picked readings and references by the foundation, matched to the result of the test, so the experience ends with something actionable.
- A downloadable PDF : The user can download a personalized summary of their result.
- Deployment : The database and the application were deployed on Fondation 2100's OVH infrastructure.
Outcome
This was my first project working directly with a client with no technical background. Our main contacts were the directors of Fondation 2100. It pushed me to communicate as an engineer using plain language, translating technical decisions and progress into terms that made sense to them.
Beyond development, I was responsible for most of the project management:
- Planning : I broke the project down into phases (needs scoping, writing the questions and scoring methodology, mockups, development, and deployment), and defined the deliverables, effort estimates, and delivery schedule for each.
- Team coordination : I split the tasks with my fellow contributor and organized our workflow.
- Client communication : I ran regular meetings with the client to share progress and present intermediate deliverables.
- Deployment : Working alongside Fondation 2100's technical director, I learned to deploy an application on OVHCloud.
The client was very satisfied with the result, praising the quality of the work, the speed of our responses, and the attention to detail in every round of revisions.
